TERRITORIAL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

As representatives of the Cordova Bay Association, we acknowledge the W̱SÁNEĆ and Lekwungen peoples on whose traditional territory our Cordova Bay community was built, and offer our respects to their ancestors who were living at the village of ȾEL¸IȽĆE at the time of the South Saanich Treaty of 1852. 

We recognize that the 1852 South Saanich Treaty charted out a relationship with the W̱SÁNEĆ and Lekwungen peoples that we are hoping to continue to develop today and into the future.

Message from the Board of Directors

The Cordova Bay Association for Community Affairs (CBACA) was formed in 1976 and, as per our constitution, is here to “Inform, engage, connect with and advocate on behalf of the residents, property owners and local businesses of Cordova Bay to maintain a strong, vibrant, active, sustainable and positive community”.

To that end, the Board of Directors meets monthly (except July and August). Meetings are open to CBACA members. Directors are elected by members at the Annual General Meeting. Planning and traffic matters represent the bulk of what comes before us.

The role of the association is as follows:

1. To provide opinion to Saanich for development and zoning changes based on the official community and local area plans, the zoning, the submitted documents, remarks from members, remarks from the public at large, our experience with all the other planning issues in the community, and our own experiences.
2. To attend council and other relevant meetings on issues of concern to Cordova Bay.
3. Provide information and assistance to community residents with issues pertaining to Cordova Bay.

The volunteer board of directors continues to be involved in a number of other activities:

1. 1. Receive information about traffic concerns from residents. Link them to the community plan and work with residents to resolve them with Saanich.
   2. Organise Cordova Bay Day each year.
   3. Sell memberships and manage a database of CBACA members to fund the organisation and to add influence with Saanich.
   4. Use grants and surplus revenue to add enhancements to our community.
   5. Provide grants to qualifying non profit groups in Cordova Bay.
   6. Organise All Candidates Meetings at election time.

1. Maintain the CBACA Notice Board at Mattick’s Farm and The Haro.
2. Create and manage the CBACA website.
3. Produce and distribute The Cordovan newsletter twice per year.
4. Are active members of SCAN (Saanich Community Association Network).
5. Hold at least 10 board meetings per year.
