Speed Limit Reductions Coming to Cordova Bay Residential Streets
Saanich Council has recently approved bylaw No. 10276 to reduce the maximum speed limit on residential streets across the municipality. The default speed limit on the majority of residential street in Saanich will now be 30 km/h from the present 50km/h.

Council had approved a new Speed Limit Establishment Policy in 2022 which enabled the reduction of speeds on road corridors across the municipality to be followed by residential streets in later years. The initial rollout of this new policy in March 2023 was the reduction of the speed limit to 40km/h on Cordova Bay, Fowler and Sayward Roads. The implementation of the new speed limit policy will take 4 years and will be complete by 2030. Saanich will install new speed limit signage in a phased process until it the policy roll-out is complete in 2030.
In 2026, Del Monte Ave, Claremont Ave., Wesley Road and Haliburton Road will be signed with their new 30km/h speed limits. The balance of the residential streets (e.g. Parker Ave, Santa Clara Ave., Alderley Rd., Sunnymead Way, Sea Ridge Dr. etc.) in Cordova Bay will be signed for reduced 30km/h speed limits, but this will occur later in the phased rollout of the program but before 2030.
