CURRENT ANIMAL SEASONAL RESTRICTIONS ON CORDOVA BAY BEACH REMAIN IN EFFECT

CURRENT ANIMAL SEASONAL RESTRICTIONS ON CORDOVA BAY BEACH REMAIN IN EFFECT
The current seasonal restrictions for dogs on the beaches in Cordova Bay remain in effect. The present
rules prohibit dog use between May 1 and August 31 except between 6am and 9am on that section of
beach between Walema and the south boundary of Cordova Bay Park. This section of beach is open,
however, to dog use outside of this restricted period. Beach areas north of Walema (including Parker
beach) and south of Cordova Bay Park are open year-round to dog use and without leashes provided
that they are under control at all times.

Saanich Council had been considering amending the animal control bylaws for Cordova Bay, as part of
their People, Pets and Parks Strategy, to allow year-round off leash dog use without restrictions on the
beaches in Cordova Bay. The CBACA wrote letters and made a presentation to council on September 11
to keep the current animal control bylaw in place and not open up our beaches to unrestricted all day
    year-round off leash dog use.

As a result of the CBACA submissions and presentation, Council on November 6, 2023 amended their
previous bylaw proposals and approved the current bylaw regime or status quo for dog use on our
    beaches.
