Myrtle Dyer Obituary
DYER, Myrtle Winifred (nee Foster) 1917 – November 25, 2015 At 98, Myrtle passed away in her own home, as was her wish. Myrtle was born in Regina, Saskatchewan then moved to Victoria in 1939 where she met and married Fred Dyer. Myrtle and Fred got involved in the Cordova Bay community; in the early years she co-edited the “Spindrift” newspaper. Later Myrtle worked as a secretary for Family and Children’s Services. Music was a major focus throughout her life playing (1st) violin with the Civic Orchestra, the Juan de Fuca Orchestra and chamber quartets. She travelled, organized a birding group and The Friday Walkers; she joined a book club, The Lunch Bunch and M&M’s women’s lunch group. For many years, Myrtle practiced Tai Chi at Goward House and in later years attended Cordova Bay “On the Go” group. She cherished her various cats, garden and beach at her waterfront home in Cordova Bay where she lived for 70 years. Survived by daughters Barbara, and Nancy (Brian) in Victoria, Carol (Peter) on Bowen Island, nephews Keith and Stephen Foster of Regina, nephew Mike Dyer (Josie) of Victoria and niece Althea Baldwin (Brian) in Powell River. Special thanks to neighbours John & Moira Wainwright and Margaret & Tony Gill, as well as Beacon Home Care-workers for providing loving care that allowed Myrtle to stay in her own home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cordova Bay Elementary School Senior Centre, 5238 Cordova Bay Rd., V8Y 2L2, where a Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 29th, 2016 at 2pm.
